Off shore

Even In The Toughest Conditions

ROTOMAC pumps are built for round-the-clock operation at remote offshore locations, handling products with low shear and minimal pulsation, high solids content, and demanding process conditions including low NPSHa, high inlet pressures, and liquids with varying gas content.

Where The Equipment Has Nowhere To Hide

Almost 71% of the earth’s surface is covered by oceans, so it is no surprise that a large share of known oil resources lies beneath the seas — offshore output fluctuates around a third of global oil production. As exploration and extraction move into more extreme environments, the demands placed on equipment become tougher.

Offshore exploration uses jack-up, submersible and semi-submersible rigs, while production runs on tension leg and spar platforms and floating production storage and offloading (FPSO) units. Each shares similar processes but has unique requirements depending on location.

One platform, many duties. Drilling waste must be managed, produced water treated, reject oil handled, sewage treated, MEG processed, open and closed drains and caissons emptied, and condensate and crude oil transferred — all from a deck with no spare space and no easy access for maintenance.

Three Conditions That Define The Duty

Offshore process conditions are the hardest test a pump faces. These three shape every specification decision.

Condition 01

Low NPSHa

Drains, caissons and sumps offer almost no suction head. Our pumps are engineered to operate under extremely low NPSHa, in conventional or compact configurations.

  • Conventional or compact configurations
  • Overcomes severe space restrictions
  • Suited to open and closed drains systems
Condition 02

High Solids & Gas Content

Cuttings, sludge and produced water arrive with entrained solids and varying gas content that would block or vapour-lock a conventional pump.

  • Solids pass through the conveying cavities
  • Handles liquids with varying gas content
  • Copes with high inlet pressures
Condition 03

Low Shear

Oil droplets in produced water must survive the pump if separation downstream is going to work. Low-shear conveying protects the droplet rather than emulsifying it.

  • Protects oil droplet integrity
  • Minimal pulsation for stable metering
  • Feeds flotation and hydrocyclone units
