Modern Life Petrochemical Sector
The Midstream Behind Everything
The petrochemical industry is the midstream process that converts crude oil and other fossil fuels such as natural gas into hydrocarbon-based chemical compounds. These components are essential to the mineral oil, chemical and other industries — from cosmetics to mobile technology, transport, construction and textiles — fundamentally shaping modern life.
Breaking down large hydrocarbon molecules from crude oil and gas into smaller compounds — such as through catalytic ‘cracking’, which produces a highly viscous, abrasive slurry — and other processes require accurate dosing of chemicals such as corrosion inhibitors, emulsion breakers and flocculants.
Wastewater is now a design constraint. Tightening environmental legislation requires pumps that handle oily water mixtures with minimum shear for efficient separation, across a wide range of solids content — which puts the treatment train on the same footing as the process itself.
Built Around The Constraint
Petrochemical sites rarely offer the ideal installation. Our pump technology adapts to the space, the suction condition and the media rather than the other way round.
Installation Space
Installation flexibility across horizontal, vertical and compact configurations means the pump fits the plot available, including drains systems with severe space restrictions.
- Horizontal, vertical and compact configurations
- Conventional or compact drains solutions
- Overcomes typical drains space restrictions
Suction Conditions
The ability to operate under extremely low NPSHa opens up duties where a conventional pump would cavitate — particularly across open drains systems.
- Operates under extremely low NPSHa
- Suited to open drains configurations
- Stable performance at varying inlet conditions
Media Range
Our pumps handle a wide range of viscosities, including non-flowable media, with or without solids, abrasive and shear-sensitive.
- Thin through to non-flowable media
- With or without entrained solids
- Abrasive and shear-sensitive products
ROTOMAC Pumps For The Petrochemical Industry
Four duties across the refinery and process plant.
Catalyst Slurry Injection
Powdered catalysts processed into a slurry with mineral oil are dosed with our S Range pumps, delivering low shear and minimal pulsation into the reactor against high pressure.
Refinery Wastewater And Sludge Treatment
Our low-shear pumps handle oily water mixtures and skimming oil from separators and flotation units, as well as viscous oily sludges from other separation processes.
Versatile Open Drains Configurations
Our engineered pump configurations — conventional or compact — overcome the space restrictions and extremely low NPSHa requirements typical of drains systems.
Dosing
Accurate, linear and repeatable dosing of corrosion inhibitors, flocculants and other chemicals is achieved with our MP & LA Dosing Range.
Pump Ranges For Petrochemicals
The ranges most often specified for this sector. Send us your duty and our engineers will confirm the model.
S Range
Robust all-round progressive cavity pumps conveying low to highly viscous products, with or without solids.
W Range
Open hopper pumps with integrated auger feed for highly viscous, semi-solid and non-flowable products.
Vertical Immersible
Vertical immersible pumps that empty pits, basins, sumps and caissons where suction conditions are critical.
Dosing Range
Precise metering of low to highly viscous, aggressive media with high accuracy and minimal pulsation.
